Bubble tea is tea-based beverage made with tea, flavoured syrup and popping boba or tapioca pearls and served with ice. It was originally created in Taiwan in the 1980’s and exported to California in the 1990’s through Taiwanese immigrants where it quickly spread in popularity to become a global sensation.
Bubble tea typically falls under two broad categories milk teas or fruit teas. There are many tea varieties that can be used for the base of a bubble tea including black, white, green or oolong. At Bubbleology we prefer the delicate taste of Jasmine tea which we use as the base of our boba tea kits.
From there syrups, boba pearls and ice are added to the drink. Tapioca pearls are typically used within milk tea recipes while fruit flavoured popping boba is used within fruit bubble tea. The hand-crafted nature of the drink means that the experience can be uniquely customized to the drinker’s taste and preferred level of sweetness.
